Our primary aim is to find great, permanent homes for the animals in our care. This is something we take very seriously and we want applicants to take seriously too. We don't hand over animals and then forget about them - our interest continues throughout their lives. So by adopting from us you are essentially inviting us into your lives for the next 2, 10 or even 20 years! Our animals aren't just "pets". To us they are family members and we look for homes where they'll have the same sort of status.

It is impossible for someone who has not been in the position of having to home animals to understand how very hard this can be. We put a huge amount of work and love into helping the animals here become healthy and happy individuals, often following mistreatment and neglect in their previous homes. To then entrust the care of that animal to a stranger is incredibly difficult.

In order to adopt an animal from us you need to be willing to sign an adoption contract stating that you will, amongst other conditions, care for the animals in accordance with our care sheets. If you wish to preview the care sheet and adoption contract in advance of starting the adoption process then do please email us.

We will only adopt to private homes where the animals will be part of the family. We do not home to zoos, animal parks, colleges, schools etc and our animals must never be used for working, feeding, breeding or any other non pet purpose.

We prefer to be able to personally homecheck new adopters so ideally you will live within about an hours drive of us (We are in Wallington, Surrey). However, we will also consider homes further afield if you have adopted from us previously, have been checked by another rescue or if we can arrange a trusted volunteer to do the check. It also helps if you can provide a reference, someone you have adopted from before or someone who has already adopted from us is ideal.

If you meet these criteria then the adoption process goes like this

- check our "Meet the Animals" page to see who is available for homing at the moment before completing our adoption application form.

- we will then review your form and follow up any references etc before calling you for a preliminary chat

- if all is well after that we will usually arrange for a homecheck

- if you are approved we will email you the care sheet and adoption contracts for you to review. You then need to return the signed contracts to us

- once we have received the contracts we will call you to make arrangements for the animals coming to live with you

We have a very high standard for our homes. A good home is not enough, we look for excellent homes where the animals are family and are thoroughly spoiled. Sometimes we will say thank you but we are unable to home an animal with you at this time. We don't mean to offend but if we're at all unsure we err on the side of caution.

It's important to note that the animals here are not For Sale. On adoption you become the animals' guardian but they remain the legal property of STAR. Should you ever be unable to care for the animals or break the terms of the adoption contract, the animal(s) would need to be returned to us. We do ask you to make a donation when you adopt from us but there is no set amount required.

Rescue me not only with your hands, but with your heart as well

I will respond to you.

Rescue me not out of pity, but out of love.

I will love you back.

Rescue me not with self-righteousness but with compassion.

I will learn what you teach.

Rescue me not because of my past, but because of my future.

I will relax and enjoy.

Rescue me not simply to save me, but to give me a new life.

I will appreciate your gift.

Rescue me not only with a firm hand, but with tolerance and patience.

I will please you

Rescue me not only because of who I am, but who I am to become.

I will grow and mature.

Rescue me not to revere yourself to others, but because you want me.

I will never let you down.

Rescue me not with a hidden agenda, but with a desire to teach me.

I will be loyal and true.

Rescue me not to be chained or to fight, but to be your companion.

I will stand by your side.

Rescue me not to replace one you've lost, but to sooth your spirit.

I will cherish you.

Rescue me not to be your pet, but to be your friend.

I will give you unconditional love
