Starlight Trust Animal Rescue (STAR) was founded in March 2008 by Dave and Sarah Argrave.
Dave and Sarah are lifelong animal lovers and Sarah has been involved in animal rescue work since 1993, most recently as a foster carer for Furry Friends Animal Rescue. In this capacity, Sarah was responsible for the care and homing of over 500 animals.
The name of the charity is a tribute to two very special friends who have since left for the bridge - Meg and Fraggle. You can read more about them here.
STAR is based in Surrey and currently caters for small rodents such as rats, mice, hamsters, chinchillas, gerbils, degus etc. At the moment our space and facilities are limited but our long term goal is to expand to be able to help more animals of other species. Dave and Sarah both work full time to help fund the rescue which otherwise relies entirely on public contributions.
For now we are concentrating on helping those animals we can to a high standard. We have a very strict no kill policy. Animals in our care are only ever euthanased if there is no hope of making them well and their quality of life is unacceptable. Our aim is to find loving, permanent homes for animals handed to us. Where this is not possible or an animal is not suitable for homing then we will either offer them permanent sanctuary here or seek to find them a place in another sanctuary or a foster home. No animal is ever euthanased because it is hard to home. Our homes are vetted and adopters must sign an adoption contract. We offer lifetime support for all animals adopted from us so we are always on hand for advice and will take back any animal which can no longer be cared for.
While they are here, animals are treated as our own pets. They are housed in good sized cages, given a quality diet and regular opportunity to free range and interact with others where appropriate.
We are currently seeking registered charity status.
